Dear fragrance lover,

The essential oil of the Ylang Ylang tree's flowers has been considered a symbol of harmony, sensuality, and inner peace for centuries. In this edition of "When Plants Whisper," you'll discover how this precious oil can naturally relieve stress, uplift your mood, and even enrich your skin and hair care routine.

Ylang Ylang Oil

Ylang Ylang (pronounced ee-lang ee-lang) is a tropical tree with the botanical name Cananga odorata. It originates from Southeast Asia (especially Indonesia, the Philippines, and Madagascar) and belongs to the Annonaceae family.
The tree's flowers are very fragrant and are used to produce essential Ylang Ylang oil through steam distillation. The scent is sweet, floral, woody, and is often used in perfumery as well as in aromatherapy and wellness applications.
So, how can I use Ylang Ylang oil?
  • Room fragrance: Use a few drops in a diffuser; the oil has an uplifting and vitalizing effect on the senses.
  • Mood-lifting: The oil can have a harmonizing effect in cases of sadness or anxiety.
  • Heart-strengthening: Rub 1 drop of the oil in your palms and inhale the scent.
  • Skincare: Suitable in diluted form for combination or oily skin, as it can regulate sebum production.
  • Massage: Add 1–2 drops to 10 ml of carrier oil (e.g., jojoba oil) and use for massages.
  • For the scalp: Mix 2–3 drops of Ylang Ylang oil with about 1–2 tablespoons of carrier oil (e.g., jojoba oil, coconut oil, or argan oil) and massage it into the scalp.
